Spectating and Volunteering.......

Sometimes it's just nice to be able to take it easy and actually watch a triathlon or a race rather than being in the heat of the action. This past Sunday there was a cool event in Annapolis, the Truxton Park Youth Triathlon, which I was fortunate enough to volunteer at. It's the 4th year of this event and it keeps growing and growing. This year there were over 250 kids that participated ranging in age from 6 years old up to the senior division for the 17 year olds.

I was positioned on the bike course as well as the run course and it was a fun couple of hours just seeing the kids have a great time. Some of them are definitely competitive too, if you told them that someone was just up the road they would take on the challenge of chasing them down. Many went so far as going hard enough to heave out on the run course and at the finish line.....perhaps they weren't use to Gatorade or energy gels yet :-)

Going from a major international race at Eagleman 70.3 last weekend to a local kids triathlon this weekend was cool and really shows that sport and competition at all levels is alive and well. If there are any local events near to you I would certainly encourage you to lend a hand and give back to the local community as well as the sports we all love.

you forgot to add one of the most important benefits to spectating (well, bad form at the youth event I suppose) but the triathlon chicks are REALLY hot :-)
