Running in the dark....

This time of year isn't much fun for running. Don't get me wrong, I love running but the darkness descends and my running shoes don't get to see daylight until at least March. Early morning runs are in the dark and evenings runs are in the dark...

The lack of daylight severely limits the routes that I can run and I generally have to pound the sidewalks, a minority of which have lighting....good job I like eating carrots! No longer can I get out onto my long rural routes using the back lanes amongst the fields and farms. That's what I miss most, getting away from the traffic, the hustle and bustle, and being able to push the pace past the corn fields and the odd cow munching away on the grass. Not until the daylight comes back will I be able to do that and in the meantime I struggle to find new routes on the local sidewalks....

At least the sidewalks are generally snow and ice free and I'm able to get outside and not be stuck on the dreadmill until Winter's end!
