This is only a short report as there is not that much that you can write about a 17min race. The race took place on the campus of the University of Maryland and started outside the Comcast Center, home of the Terps basketball (and other athletic) teams. From looking at previous results I knew that a few high caliber runners would show and we weren't dissappointed when local olympic marathon hopeful Michael Wardian showed to try and win for the second year in a row. As previously posted I was trying to get a PR and go under the elusive 17 minute barrier. To cut a long story short I ended up just 14 seconds over 17 minutes for 5th place overall and so will have to wait until the Run 4 Kathy 5km on October 13 to try again.
This race was good however, as it was amazing in seeing Wardian seemingly cruise the first mile (when I was still within touching distance) and then see him put on the afterburners to catch the lead two runners and eventually taking the victory in a speedy 15mins 24secs. The course was hillier than I expected but after looking at the course map I should have expected it as it takes in the hills surrounding the football stadium (Byrd Stadium).
So now I have two weeks to work on a little more speed and put together the strategy to get under 17 minutes. Last year at the Run 4 Kathy I did 17:03 so I think it is possible to get under, although once again it isn't a completely flat course.....where can I find one of them?
The training ramblings of an Endurance Junkie....tend to ride my bike with the occasional swim and run.

- Still reflecting on @gravel_worlds from this past weekend. 150miles of primo gravel in Lincoln NE with 10,000ft of climbing. It was hard but I went for it and utimately paid the price in the last hour when I cracked, really cracked. Crawled to the finish just over 9hrs after starting.....but yes it was fun! . . . . . #gravelworlds #gravelride #IFB #parvillacycles #cycling #vandessel #lincoln
