Catoctin 50km....August 4th

It's time again for ultrarunning to rear its head and make an appearance in the racing schedule. Since Eagleman I have been getting out onto the trails and prepping for the 50km trail race that I have on August 4th, just north of Frederick, MD. This should be a hot, hot, hot race and isn't made any easier by being rated one of the toughest courses in the area. Read the description at the Catoctin 50KM website.

Although trail running generally takes a backseat to triathlons it is gradually working its way up the pecking order and there is certainly an itch that I would like to scratch when it comes to competing in a 100m trail ultramarathon. Plans for a 50 miler this Fall have been shelved due to the Duathlon and 70.3m World Championships and so my first "50" will probably be in the Spring of 2008. In the meantime the Catoctin 50km should whet the appetite and also provide a great base for the speedwork that I will need to be putting in prior to the World Championships.
