Race Time

This week has been pretty good in terms of training, in terms of time it has been my biggest week of the year so far, at just over 12hrs. Columbia Olympic Triathlon is tomorrow and the pre-race ride this morning was good and the legs felt ready. Normally I would have tapered before a race, but with Eagleman just three weeks away I decided to just train through this week and use the race tomorrow as a fast training day. I did the Columbia race as my very first Olympic distance race back in 2005 and finished in just under 2hrs 20mins (for 5th place in Age Group and 53rd overall) on which is actually a very challenging and hilly course. The Columbia race is typically the season opener race for many in the Mid-Atlantic area and is one of the largest races along the east coast....over 1500 racers. I guess tomorrow I would like to go about 2hrs 15mins or under if things go well. The weather should be ideal with start temperatures in the low 60's rising to about 70 by the end of the race, at least the lake water should be cleaner than the "cesspit" of Cedarville and certainly warmer than Lake Anna.

One other note is that the Massanutten Mountain 100 mile ultra race takes place this weekend and is potentially on my schedule for this time next year. A 100miler ultra is certainly something that I would like to do and is a decision that I will make after undertaking a 50miler later this year.
