The first half of the season is done and dusted so now it's time to look ahead and see what the 2nd half has in store. Obviously if you have ever read this blog previously, the main goal of any season is to get to Kona at the IM World Championships....that didn't happen for 2012!
It feels a little weird in that it is the middle of June and my A races are all over and the season still has plenty of time left. I was contemplating heading out to IM Louisville at the end of August but in the end decided against it. I could go on forever trying to get to to Kona and I could also spend a lot of money doing so. I had two attempts at IM St George and Eagleman 70.3 this year and that is enough. There comes a time when you have to say enough is enough and be happy with one or two chances per year. There will always be another year.....
For the rest of this season I need to have a focus and a motivation. Instead of IM Louisville I am going to race again at ChesapeakeMan 'Iron'man, which I raced back in 2008. It's a great local independent ultra-distance race and the goal is to get back under 10hours for the 140.6m.....after a couple of disappointing ironman times in recent races, it will be a good focus to aim for that. ChesapeakeMan isn't until Sept 29th so before then I will race at the Rosaryville 50km, Maryland Olympic Duathlon and Delaware Diamondman 1/2 Ironman. I will probably throw in a couple of road races both running and cycling as well.
After ChesapeakeMan it will be back to a running focus in Fall to hit the Stone Mill 50 miler, perhaps a marathon and a slew of 10kms, 5kms etc. By then it will be time to look forward to 2013 already....wow time flies!
The training ramblings of an Endurance Junkie....tend to ride my bike with the occasional swim and run.

- Still reflecting on @gravel_worlds from this past weekend. 150miles of primo gravel in Lincoln NE with 10,000ft of climbing. It was hard but I went for it and utimately paid the price in the last hour when I cracked, really cracked. Crawled to the finish just over 9hrs after starting.....but yes it was fun! . . . . . #gravelworlds #gravelride #IFB #parvillacycles #cycling #vandessel #lincoln
